Stand up straight and place your feet shoulder-width apart.Bend your knees as if you are going to half a squat. Balance your weight 50/50 between the front and back leg.You should feel balanced ready to attack or defend.Leadfoot will be planted on the floor, your back foot’s toes are planted and your back heel raised a couple of inches off the floor. Both hands are up just above your chin. After you throw a punch, your hands should return to this guard position immediately for defense.
In February, Zhang told The Ring from his training venue in New Jersey, where he has lived for several years, “In 2008 I made the Olympics and I got the silver medal, that’s when people started to recognize that there’s a big Chinese heavyweight that can fight.”
The left foot of the boxer in front, in the case of a right-handed student (orthodox boxing stance), is in a backward lunge with the right foot not exceeding the width of the student’s shoulder. The body weight rests evenly on both feet. The left foot is fully planted, but the weight of the body is more on the front of the foot. The right foot rests on the ground with the midfoot slightly turned inwards. In terms of body position, the longitudinal axis of the shoulder girdle does not coincide with the line joining the centers of the feet but forms an angle with it when turned towards the opponent.
In his ‘Hotboxing podcast’, Tyson has discussed the incident umpteen times. It is no surprise that the moment remains as one of the finest memories. However, Tyson initially wanted to have hearts on his face.
Observing your opponent’s patterns and habits can provide valuable insights for countering their attacks. Look for their favorite punches, combinations, and defensive tendencies. This knowledge can help you anticipate their moves and respond effectively.
There is no routine, move around and work on different things. You’ll notice everyone shadowboxes differently. Check out my Youtube channel for more helpful boxing videos. I have some on shadowboxing on there.
Both options are great, but a key component of both strategies is to shorten your stance. Usually, your feet are shoulder-width apart but getting closer to your opponent involves moving your feet closer together. They should be almost parallel, this means you can close the gap faster as your feet aren’t crossing a wide space as you move.
‘Right-handed Southpaws’—right-handed fighters who adopt a Southpaw stance—are a rarity but have been known to occur. They use their dominant right hand for leading and quick jabs, taking advantage of the surprise factor their unusual style creates. Famous right-handed southpaws include Oscar De La Hoya and Miguel Cotto.
Ok thanks, I have done and see that from the beginning which are both foots together I must only take the right back and let the front foot like it is only a bit more in inside, like some heavyweights which it looks like that the front foot is like in walking position but except this the knee bended, all in all more weight in front food, long distance position it goes like 55% 45% front-back weight, and “panzer” position 65%-35%, many time before I give more weight to back foot, for the russian it wasnt a problem he show me some cool moves with all weight in back foot, but for the other style it wasnt acceptable. Thanks again and keep it on!

57-year-old Mike Tyson was once the most feared man on the planet. Not only was he considered one of the greatest heavyweights in the world, but he also had an impressive record to back it up. After his retirement in 2005, he has participated in a few exhibition matches, with the last one of these coming against Ray Jones in 2020 with the contest ending in a draw. Tyson’s purse for that fight was reportedly $10 million.
There is a very good reason why the very first ‘skill’ article that I post is about the boxing stance and on-guard position. If we don’t get the basics of the stance and on-guard right, then any boxing skill that we try to learn will not be as good as it can be.
A position in which the legs, arms, and body are in a position that enables easy and uninterrupted attack and defense in all directions and in which the points of impact are protected is called the boxing position. Hence, it’s very important for beginners to learn and implement it in the right way.
During an exclusive interview with China Daily show Tracking Success, Zhang said that he did not enjoy boxing when he first took up the sport as a teenager, as he was always found himself trapped in the corner. Then, one afternoon, standing at crossroads between his dormitory and the boxing gym, he decided he was going to punch back. Now, at the age of 41, Zhang continues to chase the chance to fight for the next victory. To find out more, click the video.
